For statistics two counters are incremented in the WEB database per chromosome. The download counter is updated when a user loads this chromosome to his local machine. The usage counter is incremented when a chromosome is dragged from the pool to an image population.

When you drag an image from the pool window to an population it is recommended but not necessary to be on line. If your machine is off line the usage count can not be incremented.
